The sports fraternity especially those in the track and field genre will be thrilled to welcome the long awaited Synthetic Athletics Track which was propagated last year.
Several venues were initially proposed as such, but it appears as though the administration has settled on a location, given that the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board yesterday publicly opened bids for the construction of the track at Leonora on the West Bank of Demerara.
The construction of the country’s first synthetic athletic track was included in the budgeted sum of $392,500,000 for four areas.
“In 2010, our flagship infrastructure project will be the development of the Synthetic Athletics Track,” Sports Minister Dr Frank Anthony had said earlier this year.The Engineer’s Estimate for the Project is $145M and the bids submitted are:
Bids were also submitted for the procurement of equipment for a VHF omnidirectional radio range (VOR) and Distance Measuring Equipment for the Civil Aviation Authority and two foreign companies’ submitted bids.

Bids were also opened for the supply of meals and snacks for parliamentarians and staff during the sittings of the National Assembly as well as the various committees.

Bids were opened for the construction of the Turkeit Guest House, Warden and Caretakers Building at the Kaieteur Falls National Park, for which engineers estimated would cost some $29, 091,577.

Bids were also opened for the rehabilitation of the Officers Living Quarters in Kingston for the Guyana Prison Services for which engineers estimate would cost some $14, 805, 329.
