The Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) has instituted life bans on the three boxers who absconded in the United States while on their way home from the Commonwealth Games held in India.
This was a strong message sent by GABA to any other fighter under its charge that they will not tolerate this sort of blatant indiscipline. GABA President Steve Ninvalle informed the Media that the Disciplinary Committee met last Friday and made a unanimous decision to permanently expel the trio of; Dexter Jordon, Clevon Rock and Devon Boatswain; from their ranks.
Ninvalle disclosed that the clubs had met with GABA executives and it was fully agreed to amend their constitution in regards to similar types of indiscipline one week after their return from the Games.
The constitution had previously stipulated that such offences carried a one year penalty, which the concerned parties governing the sport felt were too lenient. The decision was taken to amend the document to reflect harsher punishments. This in force, the meeting last Friday saw the ultimate decision being taken.
The GABA head also informed that a letter informing of their decision to seriously sanction the three fighters will be sent to the World Governing Body AIBA and the Caribbean body.
