We should avoid carrying ‘lame ducks’ to the polls
Dear Editor,
The recent sudden illness of presidential hopeful Winston Murray has brought to stark reality the need for all presidential candidates to be subjected to a rigorous medical examination by a team of specialists.
At the conclusion, the results should be made public and anyone carrying illnesses that could cause the nation huge sums of money to maintain their health should be disqualified from contesting the elections.
Guyana has had two presidents dying in office and two others carried illnesses that brought about their demise soon after demitting office. We should therefore avoid carrying ‘lame ducks’ to the polls.
Apart from their physical fitness, the CV’s of all contenders should be made public so that the electorate could better judge who is best suited to gain the respect of the majority of the electorate.
