Police are searching for four armed bandits who robbed the home of a miner at 69 AA Victoria Avenue, Eccles, East Bank Demerara yesterday.
According to reports, the wife of the dredge owner, Leslyn Fernandes, was not at home at the time (13:30 hrs) of the robbery when gunmen visited the house and robbed the family of US$9,000 and $7.2M.
Reports further revealed that two maids, Emelda Williams and Vernie Venezuela, were in the home. When they opened the door upon hearing someone knocking, four men all armed with guns confronted them.
The men held them at gunpoint and proceeded to ransack the house until they found a bag containing money in a wardrobe.
The intruders injured no one during the robbery. Fernandes later told the police that one of the maids called on her phone. Her husband is in the interior.
According to police sources it appears as if the gunmen knew what they were looking for and where to go. Statements were taken from the maids and police are investigating.
