…son, 12, witnesses deadly incident
A Black Bush Polder resident lost his life yesterday in the back dam when he was pinned in a trench after the tractor he was driving turned turtle.
Sarga Persaud, called ‘Fat Boy’, 33, of 155 South Mibicuri, Black Bush Polder, was one of two operators working for one Outram Rampersaud.
The men were operating two tractors that were pumping water from a trench to the rice fields whilst a third tractor was on standby.
Persaud who leaves to mourn, his wife, Devi, and three children aged 12, eight and five, was accompanied by his eldest child to the backdam where he had gone since Saturday.
Kaieteur News understands that the man was trying to move the third tractor, when he reversed it too close to the trench and the tractor toppled.
Persaud, in trying to save himself, jumped off the machine, but was pinned.
His co-worker and son tried desperately to dig him out, but by the time he was freed he appeared to be dead.
Persaud’s body was ferried to the Mibicuri Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
