Sweet Revenge walked away with a lion’s share of the prizes when the T&T Cricket Board’s North Zone Council hosted its 30th Annual Awards ceremony at the Hasely Crawford Stadium’s VIP Lounge over the weekend.
The Diego Martin-based club, Captained by former Berbice medium pacer Luke Latiff, collected trophies for Club of the Year, Cricketer of the Year (David Dick), Most Wickets (Latiff) and Best Bowling Average (Latiff) while three of its players (Dick, Latif and Shaun De Souza) were among the Five Cricketers of the Year.
Latiff, who is now married to a Trinidadian and lives in the Twin-Island Republic, Dick who plays for GNIC in Guyana’s first division and his GNIC team mate DeSouza are all Guyanese and played leading roles for their club this year.
Former Guyana first class batsman Robin Browne was also outstanding for Sweet Revenge this season as the South American cricketers helped their club to divisional promotion for next year’s season.
In his feature address, special advisor to the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Caryl Kellar promised that the current administration would put the interests of T&T’s sports people ahead of its own. He also assured the cricketers that their requests would be met by the start of the new season.
“You are knocking on an open door. This Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, Anil Roberts, is very knowledgeable and passionate about sports. Therefore he will assist you in everything possible. When you come here next year I guarantee you that you will have turf wickets and facilities and if you don’t get it, you can come and pelt my house in Diego Martin with rotten eggs. They will be delivered,” the Government official said.
