Swimmers are eagerly looking forward to the 2010 edition of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) National Championships which is set for November 17 – 21, at the Castellani House Swimming Pool, Homestretch Avenue in the City.
The five-day competition will start on Wednesday morning at 07:00hrs with the athletes competing in the 1500m Freestyle, 800m Freestyle, 200m Breaststroke, 100m Freestyle and 100/200m Individual Medley.
On Thursday the starting time remains the same with just two events listed – 200m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke.
Two more events are carded for Friday from the same time – 100m Butterfly and 200m Backstroke.
The penultimate day of the competition will see the swimmers splashing against each other from 10:00hrs in the 400m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 50m Backstroke and 200m Butterfly.
Final day competition commences at 10:00hrs with the 100m Backstroke followed by the 400m Individual Medley, 100m Breaststroke and finally, the 50m Freestyle.
Based on a GASA release FINA rules will apply during the meet, unless noted otherwise.
All citizens, born or naturalised are eligible to compete; Non-Nationals may compete as guests having secured the approval of the governing body GASA.
The age groups competing are as follows: 8 & Under, 09 – 10, 11 – 12, 13 – 14, 15 – 17 and 18 & Over.
The age of the competitors on 31st December, 2009 will determine the age-group in which they will be eligible to compete.
