Football teams from the various wards, streets and villages will get their chance to shine and cash in when the Mayor’s Cup Committee and organiser Lennox Arthur stages a 7-a-side Inter-Ward/Street/Village football tournament in honour of Mayor Hamilton Green’s 76th birthday.
The tournament starts November 17, that’s next Wednesday with eight games and all matches will be played at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground. Games are also set for November 20, 23, and 27 when the quarter, semis and final will be held.
The winner of the tournament will collect $100,000, while the runner up claims $50,000.
Next Wednesday’s opening night will see Lodge versus Uitvlugt, Charlestown against Pouderoyen, Charlotte Street battle Goed Fortuin, Campbellville challenge Den Amstel, Leopold Street clash with Timehri, Tucville tackle Soesdyke, Mocha oppose Cummings Street and West Ruimveldt take on Vryheid’s Lust.
Other teams involved in the action, which will play on Saturday November 20, are Sophia, Bent Street, Albouystown, Houston, Tiger Bay Festival City, North East La Penitence, Lima Dam, West Estate, Middle Road, Meadow Brook, Agricola, North Ruimveldt, Grove, Kitty and Laing Avenue.
