QUEENSTOWN, NEW AMSTERDAM – In fulfillment of a promise, the Aditya Kids Trust Fund Foundation (AKTFF) donated more musical instruments to the newly established Berbice High School band last Thursday.

President of the organization, Canada-based Archie Mohan said the motto of his group is ‘Investing in the Future of Children’ and as such, they are willing to help in any way possible. The items included an adapter, a pair of tabla, harmonium, dholak and dantaal.
Teacher in charge of the Hindu Society, Gavin Mahadeo, said they are indeed grateful for the instruments.
According to him, the donation was timely since the society had been raising funds to purchase a dholak for sometime, but never was able to reach the amount needed. The instruments were put to use hours later when the Berbice High School hosted its annual Deepavali concert.
Head Teacher Jennifer Rollins said they are grateful for the continued support from the group. She indicated that the gesture would help them to integrate more music, drama and dance into the curriculum of the school. The choir of the Berbice High School is a part of the national choir.
Two Fridays ago, a group of well-wishers donated some $300,000 worth of instruments including a drum-set, one violin, one electric (bass) guitar, three box guitars, two microphones, two tambourines, two keyboards and other paraphernalia. A parent launched the initiative to show appreciation to the dedicated teachers at the Berbice High School. So far the total cost of items donated to the venture is well over $400,000.
