Dear Editor,
In the Kaieteur News, dated Wednesday 3rd November, 2010, under the ‘Peeping Tom’ column re: the three month conditional $25,000 per month stipend allocated by the Government of Guyana to the laid off Barama workers and in which was suggested that an additional $5,000 per month should be given to the workers to cover costs incurred in the Government’s requirement of the workers to attend once a week computer classes.
The Government did make provision in its package to address this and the workers will be receiving an additional $5,000 per month to cover additional costs.
The Government recognises that the initial amount of $25,000 per month would indeed assist in the workers’ current situation but meal and travel expenses to and from classes would utilize some of their money ear-marked for bills and other expenses.
