– man’s remains may be exhumed
Police have re-opened investigations into the death of the father of murdered Queen’s College student Neesa Gopaul, and may have his remains exhumed if it appears that his death was not due to natural causes.
Assistant Commissioner (Law Enforcement) Seelall Persaud confirmed yesterday that police have received information which has led them to take a second look at the man’s demise.
“We have re-opened a death investigation…After the post mortem there was no reason for any criminal investigation. Now with information that we have we are pulling back what was done,” Persaud told Kaieteur News. “An exhumation will depend on our findings.”
Neesa Gopaul’s father, Moonsammy Gopaul, passed away last year, after being diagnosed with kidney failure. He was being treated at a private hospital.
According to reports, the 16-year-old Neesa had expressed some suspicion about her father’s death. Other relatives had reportedly also harboured similar suspicions.
Neesa Gopaul’s body, with most of the head missing, was found last month in a black suitcase that had been dumped in the Madewini Creek near the Emerald Tower Resort.
Gym instructor Jarvis Small and the victim’s mother, Bibi Sharima Gopaul, have been charged with her murder.
