Just after 18:00 hrs (6pm) last evening, Dr. Cheddi ‘Joey’ Jagan was rushed to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after his motorcycle collided with a motor car on Irving Street.
When Kaieteur News reporters arrived at the hospital, Jagan was receiving medical treatment, while the police officers who were also there were asked to wait outside until he could “give a statement”.
His wife, Nadia, was by his bedside, while he was receiving the necessary injections and medication.
Jagan was heard telling his relatives that he thought his finger(s) on his left hand were broken and he had some trouble breathing.
A relative of Jagan was on his cellphone outside of the A&E, alerting other family members that Jagan was involved in an accident and that they “heard he has trouble breathing, maybe the hit impacted on his lungs”.
According to sources within the GPHC, the injuries that were visible on Jagan were minor.
His wife was telling relatives that “He says he can’t remember anything really”, however, one family member was telling the police that it was a white car that came out of the street as Jagan was heading towards the direction of the seawall, while riding his motor cycle on Irving Street.
The relative continued to explain to the police that the license plate number and description of the car were recorded.
Mrs. Jagan was seen retrieving his personal belongings and helmet from the Police Outpost at the GPHC.
Up to press time, hospital officials had conducted x-rays on Jagan and preparations were being made for him to have a Computerized Tomography (CT) to ensure that the accident did not impact on his brain.
