The membership of the Holy Trinity Mothers’ Union, Anna Regina, has made a financial contribution, to rural constable, Orin Belfield, who recently lost his home to fire.
The fire has added a further burden to the young man, who has to face the challenges of restarting his life from scratch.
Since his plight, Belfield continues to experience the generosity of public spirited citizens who have contributed both financially and tangibly with building materials. Clarie Belfield, the rural constable’s wife, said that although the contributions by members of the public are considerable, it will take a lot of financial aid to rebuild and furnish their home.
Orin Belfield and his family, who now reside at his mother’s, Evelyn Belfield residence at Henrietta, has also expressed gratitude for life. “It could have been worse. Today I am grateful that God has saved the lives of my wife, my youngest son and grandson.
On August 25, last, around 11,30hrs, Claire Belfield, her youngest son, Joel and her grandson, Girard, were all asleep at their Richmond home, when the repeated sounds of “Fire, fire” emanating from one of her neighbours caught her attention.
Claire later said that she was only afforded the chance to grab her two young relatives and exit through the back door. In an instant the three bedroom house was completely destroyed.
The Belfields have estimated their losses at $5M.
The policeman who was severely beaten and chopped about his body, last year, after a bandit hid in his former house at Richmond, said he has had enough of life’s challenges. The fire, he said represents a double blow. “How much more can a man endure?” he queried.
