A 27-year-old seaman was viciously attacked and robbed at Montrose on Friday, last, after hanging out with friends at the Ocean View Hotel. Trevor Achia of 381 Good Hope, East Coast Demerara was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after he sustained injuries to his head and body. According to Achia, he and some of his friends were partying at the Ocean View Hotel, when one of the men in his company asked, “How come you come back so quickly from your trip”.
He indicated that he would normally spend as many as two weeks on one of his trips, but he concluded his business swiftly, so he returned home.
He said that he disclosed how much money he had acquired on his latest trip. He said the men then demanded money.
He told Kaieteur News that he left the hotel at 19:00 hrs and was awaiting a taxi, when the men approached him.
He said that he begun running, but the men gave chase and caught up with him at Montrose, where they dealt him several blows to his body and relieved him of $35,000 cash.
Achia noted that he only regained consciousness on Saturday, but was told by his mother that public spirited citizens alerted the police and the men were arrested.
