Quick response by police on the East Coast of Demerara resulted in the capture of two sea bandits and the recovery of an outboard engine that was stolen mere minutes earlier.
The men were nabbed on the Ogle Foreshore, shortly after robbing a fishing crew at LBI, about five miles away.
According reports reaching this newspaper indicated that around 04:30 hours on Saturday Usman Khan, of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, together with his three member crew were at the LBI Foreshore preparing to go to sea when the suspects armed with a gun and a cutlass came up with a boat propelled by wind.
The two men held up the crew and ordered them to transfer their two 48hp Yamaha outboard engines and ration into their boat before sailing away in a western direction.
The matter was reported to the police and ranks from the Sparendaam Police Station responded in time and arrested the bandits at the Ogle Foreshore minus one of the engines.
According to a source, the bandits upon seeing the police waiting for them on the foreshore, made an about turn and headed back out to sea.
They reportedly dumped one of the stolen engines overboard along with the gun they used to carry out the robbery.
Investigators were up to last night trying to locate the other stolen engine and they are expected to further interrogate the suspects.
