One semifinal game in the Garrett Cup Inter School Football competition is slated to be played today in Berbice. In the schedule game, Upper Corentyne champion, Skeldon Line Path Secondary, will take on the top school out of the Central Corentyne area, Winifred Gaskin Secondary, in a game slated for the Scotsburg ground in Upper Corentyne.
The other semifinal game between the two top schools from the New Amsterdam area, Berbice Educational Institute and Vryman’s Erven Secondary, will be played the following week at the All Saints Scot School ground.
In the final round of quarterfinal matches, Vryman’s Erven Secondary got the better of New Amsterdam Multilateral 2-1 in their game at the Scot School Ground. Scoring for VESS, Anthon Small got the double, while Jamal Butts netted the consolation goal for NAMS.
In another game, Berbice Educational Institute through a goal from Shamar Richards were declared the winner in their match up against Tutorial Academy Secondary with Ronaldo August scoring after their game ended 1-1 and TASS winning on penalty. After the game it was reported and confirmed that TASS had played with over age players and were booted out of the competition.
16 schools started the competition which will see the winner taking home the Garrett Cup and medals, while the runner up will be presented with a trophy. The outstanding players will be presented with trophies, medals and other memorabilia.
