Two men from Fisherman Quarters, Better Hope, were nabbed yesterday after they decided to steal two boat engines but were seen by a watchman.
The men were found with one of the engines at a home after police conducted a raid. According to reports yesterday, on Friday night a group of men used a small boat to get to the fishing vessel which was anchored not far from shore. However, a man left on board the fishing vessel saw them coming and hid under an icebox used to store the catch. He was able to recognise one of the robbers.
The men reportedly stole gas and managed to unhook the two engines. However, one fell into the water and they left with the other.
The watchman later made his way to the Sparendaam Police Station where he reported the matter. Based on the information, the police then raided the home at Fisherman Quarters.
The fishing vessel is said to belong to a resident of Mon Repos.
