Residents of Wakenaam have expressed dissatisfaction with the present site chosen for a mortuary. Construction work on the site has begun.
Previously, a site to the back of the hospital was chosen but for some unknown reason the site at the front of the hospital has now been chosen.
Residents claim that since the mortuary will be having bodies in different states of decomposition, the front of the hospital is not an ideal spot for the mortuary .
They also claim that it is a health threat since it is adjacent to the dressing room for patients. Wakenaam has a mortuary that is situated in the Sans Souci Cemetery. It contains a concrete table for autopsies to be done.
Because of a lack of doctors to perform autopsies on the island, the building was left abandoned and is now infested with marabuntas.
