Workers of the Guyana Power and Light Company at Wakenaam are now forced to use a track to enter and leave their work site. This newspaper was told that the power company disconnected the service from the Alesie Rice Industries Complex at Good Success.
As a result the Alesie gates which the GPL had been using for ingress and egress were locked. The GPL workers have now been forced to use an old sea dam that runs adjacent to the Complex.
GPL had been using this track to enter and leave their compound since the launching of the Power Company Service at Wakenaam.
This newspaper was told that a portion of land west of Alesie’s fence was allotted for GPL to enter and leave their worksite but this has been overgrown with bushes while a section has been covered with rice husk emitted from a factory in the Alesie Compound.
Security and other workers especially the female workers have expressed fear of snakes while they have to leave work at nights.
During the past week GPL has been conducting its disconnection campaign on the island for defaulting customers. This newspaper was unable to obtain a comment from Alesie or GPL
