As the preliminary inquiry against three Guyana Defence Force coastguard ranks continued yesterday before Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court, the victim’s brother was called to give evidence.
The three ranks, Sherwyn Harte, 26; Delon Gordon, 21; and Deon Greenidge, 20, are accused of killing 23-year-old Dweive Kant Ramdass between August 20 and August 22, at Caiman Hole Essequibo River.
Yesterday, Ramdass’s brother, Steven Persaud, was called to the stand. He merely told the court that he was the person who identified the body. The matter has since being adjourned to November 12, where it is expected that more witnesses would be called to give evidence.
Reports are that Ramdass was heading to Bartica with $17M, to transact business for his employer when he was intercepted by the three ranks. Ramdass was in a passenger boat which had just left the Parika Stelling when the vessel was stopped by the ranks who were in a green GDF Coast Guard boat. The men were nabbed at Parika, East Bank Essequibo, after police recovered part of the stolen money.
Eyewitnesses recalled seeing the army ranks arguing with Ramdass at the Parika Stelling. Shawn Ajeda, 22, Viola Adolphus, 32, and Yvonne Beckles, 49, were separately charged for accessory to murder.
They were accused of knowingly receiving, comforting, assisting and maintaining the Coast Guard ranksThe Coast Guard ranks ordered the speedboat back to the stelling where they pretended to be searching the passengers.
It is believed that they had already singled out Ramdass who was carrying the money in a box.
