– booty still not recovered
Police have nabbed a third suspect in connection with the recent Port Kaituma robbery in which bandits shot a police rank and brutalised a pregnant woman.
Reports are that early yesterday morning the man was seen sitting in a swing in front of a hotel at Port Kaituma. The police were immediately informed and responded promptly, only to find the man still sitting as if he was waiting to be caught. Shortly after the arrest, the suspect and two others were flown to the city and taken to the Criminal Investigation Department at Eve Leary.
Later in the day, the suspects were also taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention before being detained again.
They are likely to be charged sometime later in the week.
In the meantime, the policeman who was shot during the incident is said to be recovering well at the Georgetown Public Hospital, while the pregnant victim, Jacqueline James is said to be in good health despite her ordeal.
James was brutally beaten after three men stormed her home on Friday last. This newspaper was told that James put up a fight with one of her attackers and even managed to pull off his mask. The bandits shot Police Corporal Emrit Winter while escaping.
They also made off with some $9 M in cash and five ounces of raw gold. Nothing has been recovered.
