A young Detective Constable certainly found out how civilians feel after they have been brutalized by ranks of the Guyana Police Force.
The Constable was among several persons who were brutally beaten by two jeep loads of police ranks who raided the Plaisance ‘Line Top’ early yesterday morning.
According to eyewitnesses, the cops were in the process of halting the usual Thursday night revelry on the Railway Embankment, when they physically confronted several revelers.
“They start beating people like if is they children they beating,” one eyewitness told this newspaper.
One of the victims turned out to be the off duty detective.
But despite telling the ranks that he was a cop, he was handed a sound thrashing by a police officer who headed the operation.
“The man showed them his ID card and told them who he was, but like these police was high, the officer start slap up de man,” the eyewitness told this newspaper.
This was despite vehement protestations by several members of the public who stood helplessly looking on.
The off-duty detective was subsequently thrown into the police vehicle and taken to the Sparendaam Police Station where he remained with his injuries for several hours.
Within minutes of his arrest, several persons who witnessed what had transpired traveled to the offices of this newspaper around 03:00 hours to highlight the matter.
Kaieteur News understands that statements were taken in the matter as an intense investigation is launched.
The officer in question was previously involved in a shooting incident at a city bar in which one person was killed.
