Hundreds pay final respects at MSC
Described as a son of the soil, someone who has touched the lives of hundreds in Bauxite Mining Town of Linden and Guyana by extension, the body of the late Samuel Meertins Barker was laid to rest yesterday afternoon following a funeral service at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground, Linden.
In an atmosphere aptly described as serene and tranquil, those attending the Thanks Giving Service were treated to a well organized and planned programme of tributes in song and other performances.
Delivering the Message was Pastor Selwyn Sills while the Eulogy was done by Brother Jaffar Muhammad.
Tributes in song were done by Dennis Parkinson (melodious renditions of I ask the Lord & unforgettable); Godwin Edwards and Elton Barker.
The Boxer Flyers Cycle Club did a lap of honour for Sammy who was an ardent supporter of the sport of cycling while reigning Mr. Guyana Clint Duke did a posing routine; events that were unusual at a funeral service but well appreciated by the large gathering.
Tributes were also given by the Guyana Bodybuilding Federation, Guyana Football Federation, Roraima Bikers Club, Upper Demerara Barbell Club, Kashif & Shanghai Organisation and Frank Fyffe who remembered among other things that Barker loved reminiscing with words.
Yesterday’s proceedings were chaired by director of the Kashif & Shanghai Organisation, Kashif Muhammad.
