A bandit who failed in his bid to rob a GUYSUCO field officer last Friday is now in custody, and he has implicated the man whom he claimed organised the entire operation.
The bandit was handed over to police along with the gun he was carrying, after he was overpowered by his intended victim who later secured the assistance of other public spirited persons in the Enterprise, East Coast Demerara community.
Reports reaching this newspaper stated that the field supervisor would normally make payments to sugar workers at the Enterprise Post Office at the end of the week. It is alleged that the suspect was fully briefed about the payment arrangements.
He told investigators that his accomplice, who is familiar with the payment operations, contacted him and after providing him with information about who the target was, handed him a .38 revolver with one matching round. But when the suspect attacked, he was met with stiff resistance from the field officer who subsequently relieved him of the gun.
Other residents joined in and after inflicting a sound thrashing on the would-be robber, they handed him over to the police.
During an interrogation, the suspect disclosed that the mastermind had given him the weapon.
The alleged mastermind was later arrested and he too is assisting with investigations.
