A Guyanese seaman was brutally murdered in Suriname by two Guyanese men, after an altercation over the lost of a cell phone.
Essie Barker aka “Bobby Green”, 22, formerly of Lot 49 Sarbor Street, Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara was stabbed severely about his body by two men said to be from Corentyne, Berbice.
Barker’s mother, Berget Leacock, told Kaieteur News that she had received a telephone call from one of her son’s co-workers on Thursday last, who delivered the gruesome news of her son’s death.
According to Leacock, her son had bought a cell phone recently, but the phone got lost. She said that Barker was informed of the persons who had stolen the phone, so he confronted them. However there was an argument and the men overpowered him, stabbing him to his chest and back.
Kaieteur News understands that the men made good their escape on foot, but were later apprehended by public spirited persons, who handed them over to the Suriname police.
