The ‘Golden Jaguars’ Guyana’s senior football team will engage Upper Demerara in a warm up game this evening as they continue preparations for the Digicel Caribbean Cup, Group C which kicks off at the Andre Kamperveen Stadium in Suriname next Wednesday.
Venue for the game is the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground with game time set for 18:00hrs. Head Coach Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover said they are strengthening the team ahead of an important opening round of matches against the host country, St. Lucia and the Netherlands Antilles.
Overseas based Sean Cameron, scorer of the equalizing goal against Cray Wanderers in the historic game played in London early August and Jake Newton were expected to arrive in Guyana last evening.
Other overseas based players already joining the team are England based Chris Bourne and the Trinidad and Tobago based duo of Walter ‘Boyd’ Moore and Shawn Beveney.
Dover disclosed that efforts were being made to draft in the experienced pair of former Captain Charles ‘Lily’ Pollard and Kayode McKinnon, both based in T&T.
Guyana’s first warm up game was against T&T’s Soca Warriors on September 26 at the National Stadium and it ended 1-1.
St. Lucia will be Guyana’s first opponent next Wednesday in Suriname with the home team and the Netherlands Antilles squaring off in the feature game.
On Friday, Guyana will lock horns with St. Lucia with the Surinamese and the Guyanese clashing in the final group game next Sunday.
