Former President’s College student, Teshanna Natoya James, was yesterday admitted to the local bar after having her petition presented by former Magistrate Mrs. Kim Kyte- John before Chief Justice (Ag) Ian Chang.
Ms James was adjudged this year’s Best Graduating Guyanese law student, a position she shared with Shannon Jones.
James, who hails from Victoria Village, East Coast Demerara, was always deemed a high achiever by teachers. She started her early childhood education at the Victoria Nursery, then forwarded to the Victoria Primary.
After completing the Secondary Schools Entrance Examinations, she gained a place at the Annandale Secondary School from 1998 to 2003.
Not settling for less, James began attending the prestigious President’s College also in 2003.
James excelled at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) when she gained seven subjects.
In 2005, she began her legal career after she was accepted into the law programme at the University of Guyana. Three years later, she graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in law from that institution.
She moved on to the Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad where she completed her legal studies.
On September 28, she graduated with her Certificate in Legal Education. At the Hugh Wooding Law School she copped the Justice Jessel Hannaya Memorial Prize, for her performance 2008-2009.
She was also awarded the Chairman Prize, for her excellent performance in Evidence and Forensic Medicine, Law of Remedies and Civil Practice and Procedure.
In briefly addressing the court, the Chief Justice urged the new lawyer to be honest, wise, courteous and respectful.
