Preparations are winding down as a number of the country’s top horses have entered for the annual Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club one-day horserace meet at the club’s track at Alness Corentyne, Berbice this Sunday September 26.
Eight races are carded for the day and so far over 60 horses have entered in what is turning out to be a Champion of Champions meet. With the top animals in the business entered in each of the races. Prize monies totaling over $3.5M in cash and trophies and other giveaways are on offer during the day’s proceedings.
Beverage Giants Banks DIH Limited once again is one of the first companies to guarantee sponsorship for the day’s meet with over $800,000 for the feature B class event with the winner slated to run away with over $400,000 plus the Banks DIH trophy over 1300M. Among those entered so far are Miss Republic, Miss Orientate, Tropical Passion, The Message, Night Crescendo, Prince Charming, Silver Source and Star Tracer.
Gem’s Pride, Sky is the limit, Stormy Lass, Zelona, Five Star General, Peaceful, Stormy Water, Sabrina Princess and Celebration Time leads the who is who in the co-feature 3year old open for horses bred in Guyana and the West Indies in another 1300M affair for the $300,000 top prize.
The two year old event for Guyana Bred horses over 1100M with a winning purse of $180,000, will see Better than Gold, Water Wave, Cash Connect, Apostle, Royal Salute JD Jr., and Speed Vision looking to enhance their growing reputation.
The F class event which is expected to be as competitive as always over 1300M, will see the competitors battling for a first prize of $220,000; South Sea, Dutchman, Zelona, Fairy Landing and World Class all in contention.
The G Class 1200M gallop will see some of the top sprinters in the game looking to outdo each other for the $150,000 first prize; among the horses are Bounty Flyer, Gold Romance and Finishing Touch.
H2 and lower 1200M event which has a first prize of $140,000 is also another top notch race on the day’s card, with the likes of Amy Jane, Clear Victory, Baby Boy, Miami Vice, Royal Touch, New World and Lyana headlining the entries so far.
The I class 1400M gallop is expected to be a close battle with the winner slated to cart off $120,000 and over 20 horses have entered to compete in that race. Horses such as Diplomat, Dream Girl, Mona Lisa Savion, Spread the News, Sweetness, Graphic and Royal Time are among those looking to have a grand time on the track.
The final event on the day’s card is for animals classified K &L and lower with the pole position takings being tagged at $90,000 and will see Native Princes, Black Beauty, Nobody Knows, Channel Boy and Blessed Child in the running.
Top individual performers will be presented with their accolades compliments of the Trophy Stall Bourda Market and are expected to go to champion jockey, champion trainer and the top stables.
The races will be run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority and Race time is 13:00 hrs.
