– driver goes on the run
A late afternoon accident on Norton Street, Wortmanville, yesterday has left doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital fighting to save a motorcyclist’s leg after it was crushed by a cement truck.
According to reports, Patrick Daniels, 40, of B Field Sophia, was struck down by a cement truck on Norton Street shortly after 16:00 hrs.
Eyewitnesses to the accident yesterday told this publication that the truck was speeding when it collided with Daniels who was on his motorcycle.
Daniels was thrown into the air after the impact while his motorcycle ended up underneath the truck.
The driver, according to one eyewitness, quickly bolted from the scene. “He run away from the scene…..He throw de truck keys at another boy who was in the vehicle” said the eyewitness.
Police sources confirmed that a passenger was taken into custody, while the driver is still on the run.
The man’s sister-in-law, Ronako Lewis, yesterday told this newspaper that she got a phone call shortly after 16:00hrs, informing her about the accident.
The woman said that she rushed to the accident scene only to see her brother-in-law lying on the road.
“Soon as I reach at the scene all I see is blood …Patrick on the road and the bike underneath the truck” the woman explained.
The woman said an army vehicle which was passing assisted in getting her brother-in-law to the hospital.
Hospitals sources yesterday told this publication that Daniels was being prepared to be taken to the theater.
The source told Kaieteur News that Daniels left leg was crushed, while he had two gaping wounds to the head.
Kaieteur News was told that the man was complaining of severe pains in the head.
