Commissioner of Forests, James Singh has reportedly suffered a minor stroke and is currently off the job recovering. This newspaper was told that Singh, however, remains Commissioner of Forests and will soon return to office.
Minister of Agriculture, Robert Persaud said that Singh’s illness was as a result of ‘stress and high blood pressure’. According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Singh proceeded on sick leave on Wednesday 8 September, 2010 due to a sudden illness associated with high blood pressure and stress. He is however responding well to medical treatment and therapy at home and is expected to recover fully. He is expected to be on the job shortly after his recovery. The Minister further urged the media and others to respect the privacy of Mr. Singh and his family during his period of convalescence as he prepares to resume duty as Commissioner of Forests.
Currently Mr. Edward Goberdhan is acting as Commissioner of Forests.
