Garfield Skeete, called ‘Chuck Skeete’ a farmer and cart man of King Street, Cumberland East Canje, Berbice, was on Friday jailed for six months by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo when she found him guilty on the charge of unlawful wounding.
Skeete wounded Wrensford De Jong, of Wallace Street, Canje on April 27, 2009 at Calabash Creek, East Bank Berbice.
The case for the prosecution, as presented by Inspector Satrohan Dayaram, was that during the first week of April, De Jong rented one of his horses to Skeete for $40,000.
This sum was to be paid over after Skeete had finished using the animal.
However, the accused completed his mission but reneged on the agreement and instead of paying, on the day in question when the defendant questioned him about his money he armed himself with a cutlass and chopped De Jong across his left forearm.
De Jong was subsequently treated for his injuries and the matter was reported and Skeete was arrested and charged.
