Twenty-one year-old Deokie Puran was pronounced dead on arrival yesterday at the Georgetown Public Hospital after she was struck down by a Canter truck GFF 4628.
The incident occurred around 8:30 hours on the Lusignan Railway Embankment.
Two other persons, Malina Zaman, 26, and her son, Anil Zaman, three, were also struck down by the same truck.
According to a police report, the three persons were standing on the southern parapet when they were struck by the Canter truck which was heading west.
The three injured persons were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hspital where Anil Zamn was treated and sent away and his mother was treated and subsequently admitted.
The driver of the truck, Rawley Fredericks, of 238 Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara has since been taken into police custody.
The dead woman’s mother, Carmen Itwaru, said that she was on the road when she got a call from another relative who informed her that her daughter was involved in an accident.
The woman said that when she arrived at the hospital she was greeted with the news of her daughter’s death.
She said that her daughter had been employed with the Budget Supermarket for almost two years and at the time of her death she was heading to work.
The woman said that her daughter was the eldest of two children.
