The man whose photograph was issued by the police, calling for public assistance in identifying him, has been identified as 41-year-old Ivor Gomes.
He was identified by close relatives yesterday after they had seen the picture in the newspaper.
This newspaper was told that the man lived alone at Asylum Street, New Amsterdam.
Reports are that Gomes collapsed and died at Albion in the Corentyne on Sunday
According to reports, the man was seen walking on a dam in the area around 14:00 hrs when he met his demise.
Residents told investigators that they never saw the man in the area before.
The body was subsequently picked up and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital Mortuary.
