RH (Roger Hinds) Lions roared to championship honours last Saturday at the Mahdia ground when the curtains came down on the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport Mahdia Inter Block football championship.
RH Lions hammered their opponents, Airstrip 5-0 in a keenly fought contest that saw tempers beginning to flare to walk away with the $25,000 first prize donated by businessman Roger Hinds. At one point, officials had to warn the players of their conduct and the game was eventually concluded without serous incident.
Devon Mendonca, Conga Ras, Deon Kennedy, Steve Brewley and Delroy Mendonca were all on target for the Lions as the goals were shared.
Parliamentary Secretary in the Sports Ministry, Steve Ninvalle, was on hand to witness the tournament and made the presentations at the conclusion, which was held at the Roger Hinds Hotel.
Airstrip received the $10,000 runner-up prize put up by Albert ‘Sunny’ Crammer, while the individual awards went to: best goalkeeper Sherwin Clement, who took away the MACORP donated $5,000 prize, while Deon Kennedy and Steve Brewley shared the MVP accolade and split the $10,000 reward on offer donated by businesswoman Mandy Solomon of Mahdia.
