Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Neal and Massy Guyana Limited, Deo Persaud have issued an ultimatum to the Athletics Association of Guyana, which is to ensure that Sunday’s 10km race is properly managed so that it will become an annual feature.
Persaud, who was speaking at the company’s Sports Club at their Headquarters in Ruimveldt, is of the view that the race has the potential to not only become and annual feature, but also be one of the regional calendar events for athletes from the Caribbean.
“We have quite a few of these events in Trinidad. If this one is properly managed, Mr. President, then we will make this an annual event,” Persaud said, directly targeting Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) President, Colin Boyce, who was in attendance.
“It’s (the race) not meant to be a one-off thing. Let me say that we’re happy to be associated with the event and I’m sure that with what I’ve seen, it would be a success,” Persaud said, adding that apart from the fitness aspect, athletes would be tangibly rewarded.
The Neal and Massy 5km fitness walk/jog and 10km Road Race are expected to both commence at 6:30am with the walk starting at Providence in front of Sterling Products and the 10km race at Ainlim to Sterling Products and back to finish at Ainlim.
