In an effort to reduce the congestion on the East Bank of Demerara, the Guyana Police Force is informing the general public that very shortly traffic restrictions will be in place.
A release from the police public relations office stated that the public roadway from Houston to Timehri along the East Bank of Demerara will be closed to all heavy duty and slow moving vehicles from Monday to Saturday between 07:00 hours and 0900 hours; and between 16:00 hours and 18:00 hours.
The move is being contemplated in the wake of several complaints by motorists using the thoroughfare during peak hours of the day.
Previously, restrictions were implemented to facilitate activities at the Providence National Stadium.
However the intended move is expected to be for an indefinite period.
