Lynette D’Olivieira, 60, and her husband Noland D’Olivieira, 70, of Lot Six Public Road Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) lost their lives after motorcar, PJJ 1260, slammed into their motorcycle, CE 9648, while they were on their way to attend church.
The couple who were members of the Jehovah Witness Friendship EBD congregation died hours apart after they were struck down on the friendship public road around 18:30 hrs yesterday.
Lynette D’Olivieira, a mother of two was pronounced dead at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, minutes after the accident, while her husband succumbed hours later at the Georgetown Hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, PJJ 1260 was heading towards Timehri when the driver decided to overtake another vehicle on the road in the vicinity of Friendship Koker.
It is alleged that the D’Olivieiras were attempting to turn into “Three Star Road when the collision occurred.
“He just speed up without noticing the bike and hit them and they pitch with the bike far away,” an eyewitness told this newspaper.
At the deceased residence, neighbours and relatives gathered, along with fellow Jehovah Witnesses to comfort the immediate relatives.
No one was prepared to speak to the media at the time.
The driver of the car is in custody at the Grove Police Station.
