A robbery on Thursday night in Kitty has left a family four dazed but still grateful that none of its members were hurt. Jennifer and Craig Moonsammy had their home invaded on the night in question by at least four young men.
According to Mrs. Moonsammy, she and her two children were in a bedroom of their home watching a movie while her husband, Craig was in the living room reading. The intruders apparently jumped the family’s fence and came in via the front door which was pushed in but not locked. They came up behind her husband and proceeded to hit him in the head, at least seven times with their handguns. Mr. Moonsammy was made to lay face down on the ground in the living room while his wife and two children, a two-year-old and a newborn were forced to do the same in the bedroom.
Meanwhile, the intruders ransacked the house and threatened to hurt the family if they could not find what they came for. They eventually left with a laptop, two cell phones and a small amount of cash which was in the house.
Mrs. Moonsammy recalled that from the little that she could see they were not dressed like ‘junkies’ but rather well attired. After the incident the intruders took the key from her husband and proceeded to walk out of the yard like there was nothing wrong.
According to Mrs. Moonsammy, after they left the downstairs apartment, she thought she heard one of the young men tell the other to keep an eye on them (meaning her family) and she and her husband became concerned that they were going upstairs where the only resident was an elderly woman. After they left the house Mr. Moonsammy closed the door, they turned off their lights and the family retreated to a bathroom with the landline phone where they began calling relatives to see who would get on to the police. She noted that the police response to the incident was rather prompt, however to her knowledge there have been no arrests made on the matter.
She said that later on Thursday night the ranks at Kitty Police station detained at least four men and asked the couple to see if they could make a positive identification. Mrs. Moonsammy noted that one of the young men was wearing a striped shirt similar to what one of the intruders wore but she had not seen enough of their faces to make a positive identification and did not want to make any false accusations.
