The Guyana Relief Council (GRC) last Friday distributed hampers of mainly food items to families who suffered losses when fire swept through the business section of Mahdia last month.
The donation was made through the initiative of the Guyana Gold Board in collaboration with the Guyana Relief Council and other agencies namely, the National Milling Company, Beharry Group of Companies, Ricks & Sari Ltd., Bryden and Fernandes, Ansa McAl, T. Geddes Grant and the Guyana Sugar Corporation.
In a press release issue yesterday, the Council said that since the fire it has provided clothing and facilitated the preparation of the relief packages donated by the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission.
The Council has over the past sixteen years provided relief to persons in distress throughout the 10 Regions of Guyana, tailoring the assistance given to the required needs.
The representatives of the GRC who travelled to Mahdia were Ms. Lynette Carter, Mr. Donald Mentis and Mr. Michael Bascom.
