“My wife and I have truly enjoyed our stay in Guyana in the past few years, and I will never forget the experiences I had in Guyana.”
This was one of the heartfelt expressions from outgoing Chinese Ambassador to Guyana His Excellency Zhang Jungao at a farewell reception held last evening at the Chinese Embassy on Mandela Avenue.
Among those attending were Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, government ministers, parliamentarians, and members of the diplomatic corps.
Ambassador Zhang in his remarks noted that during the three years of his tenure, it was an honour to witness the social development in Guyana, although there were severe challenges from the international financial crisis.
The envoy also spoke of China and Guyana’s close relations, with cooperation in; health, trade, politics, culture and education.
Ambassador Zhang expressed pride in infrastructural undertakings by China, such as the International Conference Centre and the new Skeldon factory.
He also reminded the gathering of the many volunteers who had been dispatched to assist in the medical and agriculture fields.
Prime Minister Hinds extended best wishes to the Ambassador and his wife in their future endeavours, and emphasised that the Guyana Government had enjoyed an excellent working relationship with the envoy, which has greatly assisted in the development of many sectors.
