A casino dealer found himself in hot water yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court after he was charged with larceny by clerk or servant.
The accused, Shermon Oxford, had his charge read to him by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
It is alleged that on Friday March 26 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, while being a clerk at Laparkan, he stole $45,595 from his employer. To the charge Oxford pleaded not guilty.
In his own defense he told the court that he lives at 543 Third Field and is a Casino dealer at the Princess Casino. He told the court that ever since he was picked up by the Police he has been co-operating. He further asked the Magistrate for bail in a reasonable sum.
The court heard that the accused was at the time employed with Laparkan when a customer went to pick up a package and Oxford delivered the package and collected the money, but placed another persons’ signature of the receipt.
The man reportedly left the job immediately after. He was subsequently picked up by the police.
Oxford was placed on $60,000 bail and will return to court on September 6.
