Magistrate Hazel Octive Hamilton yesterday refused bail for a woman who was accused of trying to smuggle drugs via the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
Rubena James pleaded not guilty to a charge which stated that she had 2 kilos of cocaine in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.
James was unrepresented by lawyer yesterday when the charge was read to her.
Police Prosecutor Frank Thompson, objected to bail. According to the prosecutor the drugs were found in a false compartment in James’s suitcase.
Thompson asked for the matter to be transferred to the Providence Magistrates Court for trial. That request was subsequently granted by the magistrate.
James isnow expected to make another court appearance on Monday.
