Sensei Troy Bobb also victorious in N/America
Sixteen-year-old Teri Keziah was recently promoted from Blue to 3rd Kyu Browne belt at the United States Karate Alliance tournament in Albuquerque, New Mexico while fellow Guyanese Martial Arts competitor, Sensei Troy Bobb Snr also impressed in North America.
The teenager, a member of the Uitvlugt Shotokan Karate Club, has been in the sport for two years and competed in the 16-18 age-group in Continuous Sparring, Traditional Kata and Weapons techniques. Her outstanding performance impressed the judges to such an extent that it resulted in her belt upgrade at the New Mexico event March 25-28.
Bobb won the 35-39 age-group in the Musical form, Weapons and the Open division in Traditional Kata at the same event.
He went onto notch up victories in the Weapons and Traditional Kata and placing second in the Musical form in the National Champion Tournament in Flushen Manhattan New York on May 28 and 29.
The veteran Karateka was also in winner’s row in the Musical and Weapons category in the June 30 Master Tourist National Tournament in Atlanta City, USA.
The experienced Sensei is now a 7-times World Champion and 7-times National Champion in the USA. The pair thanked the BV NDC, Neil and Ann Gonsalves, Romeo and Siri DeFreitas and the Monar Educational Institute and its Director Narindra Persaud for their sponsorship which assisted in making their North American trip possible.
Meanwhile, the National Annual Championships is scheduled for the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on August 8 before the Pan Caribbean Championship take place in Trinidad from October 8-10.
The Uitvlugt Shotokan in West Demerara is an arm of the Harpy Eagle Martial Arts Academy of BV on the East Coast Demerara.
