Former cashier at the Swiss House cambio, Patrick Pompey was yesterday slapped with another fraudulent conversion charge.
Pompey who was charged with four counts of fraudulent conversion earlier in the year is now accused of converting $2.6M to his own use.
It is alleged that on January 26, being solely entrusted with $2.6M which was the property of the virtual complainant, Lisa Slater, Pompey fraudulently converted same to his own use. He was not required to plead to the indictable offence.
The prosecutor told the court that Pompey presently has pending matters, which are fixed for decision.
The virtual complainant, who was present in court, said that she would normally do business with Pompey. “I would normally give him US currency to change…and we never had a problem” said Slater. She said that on the day in question, Pompey came to her home and collected US$13,000 and promised to return with the local currency.
The woman said Pompey never returned with her money. Pompey interjected and told the magistrate that he knows nothing about the money. He was further remanded to prison and would be returning to court on July 26.
