The Guyana Red Cross Society, in partnership with the National Blood Transfusion Service, holds monthly blood drives on the second Tuesday of every month. This month’s blood drive will be held today from 12 noon to 17:30 hrs.
And the organisation is encouraging people to donate since their donation can save lives.
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others? Give blood before it is needed. Join the drive to save lives! The Guyana Red Cross Society stated.
According to the Red Cross, before donating, people should eat meals that contain iron. “You can get larger amounts of iron from beans, peas, green leafy vegetables, or meat products,” the Red Cross says.
Donors should also avoid using drugs and alcohol. These are dehydrating and can make the donor unwell during or just after.
Besides, these types of substances would not be healthy for a person who needs blood!
