Dear Editor,
Please let me use this opportunity to congratulate the students who were successful at the SSEE examinations 2010.
What I have observed in this set of results and the recent pass are major shift from where the top students are emanating, that is, mainly from private schools.
This is a very worrying trend for our country and its future education development plans. It presently implies that the public school system is deteriorating gradually and the best teachers are moving on to the private practices where better wages/salaries and working conditions are on offer.
This situation raises a lot of questions and concerns in my mind. Some of which are the cost for a proper education in the future would only be accessible by the wealthy and privilege, the top schools would be dominated by the same and our under privilege youngsters would be sent off to the lesser recognised schools which are already seeing a shortage of teachers. It is obvious that the same trend will take over our secondary level too.
This observation needs to be seriously examined and a more detail strategic plan needs to be developed and implemented to save our youngsters and a declining educational system. I anticipate a better mix of schools in next year results, only then I can say we have make progress.
