Group 2A champion Raymond Ally speaking with Kaieteur Sport about his chances of doing well at the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club upcoming Race Meet which is scheduled to be held on July 18, at the South Dakota Circuit said that he is confident and rearing to go.
Ally, who performed impressively at the last Meeting registering two first places, a second and a third to lead the points standing told this newspaper that he was up at the track for testing a few times and has recorded some impressive times which according to him will improve came race day.
“I’m doing some really good times and I expect those to improve come race day,” Ally confidently predicted.
The bespectacled driver who has just completed University where he studied for a Major in Business Management and is expected to graduate later this year disclosed that his performances could improve quickly due to the amount of time he has now to do testing.
“With the completion of my studies, I now have more time to focus on my driving and the car so I firmly believe that more impressive performances is in the making,” Ally said.
Disclosing that he has made some minor changes to his AE91 Corolla which carries a 4AGE engine, he mentioned that most of the cars have equal straight line power and it is the corner speed that makes the difference hence he has made an adjustment to the suspension to improve on the machine’s handling which could hold the key to victory.
He pointed to drivers the calibre of veteran Jad Rahaman and Chet Singh as those capable of ruining his chances of increasing his championship points.
“Those two guys are really good competitors who’re always there to pose a challenge to me for the overall title, but I’m keen to battle with them and hopefully continue my reign.”
He reckoned that competing is always about a good challenge and having fun on race day.
Ally also pointed out that he will be using the Meet as a warm-up for the second leg of the Caribbean Series scheduled for Barbados in August where he will be appearing for the first time.
“I will be using this Meet as preparations for Bushy Park where I’ll be driving for the first time so I’m hoping to do well here and go with that confidence to Barbados and put on a show,” Ally mentioned.
He closed by stating that he is looking forward to retaining his title and increasing his points to keep a stranglehold on the championship.
