A regular inmate of the Georgetown Prisons at Camp Street, asked Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty, on Tuesday, for a sentence of two or three years imprisonment .
Lesley Conway, a\k, Pickle, told the magistrate that he did not wish to waste the court’s time. “Indeed I stole the money from the man, but I did not break and enter the man’s home like the charge stated.”
Conway was charged indictable for break and enter and larceny and was not allowed to enter a plea. Only after a summary application was instituted by the prosecution was he allowed to plead and he pleaded guilty.
A police report stated that on July 3 and July 4, last, he broke into the dwelling house of businessman, Kumar Lalbachan, of Charity, Essequibo Coast and stole one million dollars in cash.
The charge further read that on another occasion he carted off another $78,586 in cheques,one computer mouse and one key board.
When asked by magistrate Mc Gusty why he pleaded guilty to the charge, Conway said that he was working with Lalbachan, trafficking drugs for the man. “He owe me $700,000. I glad fuh go in jail. I am not wasting the police.”
He continued, “If I am released on bail they would kill me.”
After receiving a three-year jail term the man told Magistrate Mc Gusty, “God bless you madam.’
Conway was released from jail three months ago.
