The ‘Women With A Vision’ Diamond community group, in collaboration with Help And Shelter, braved inclement weather on Monday to stage a march to highlight the issue of domestic violence.
The group started their march on the Diamond access road and ended at the Community Centre ground.
Project Coordinator Akila Doris said that after the march, group members spoke of, among other things, the need for parents to be role models in a bid to break the cycle of domestic violence.
She also said that one of the main aims of the march was to encourage persons to report all cases of abuse.
She said that Help and Shelter offers assistance to victims free of cost.
‘Women with a Vision’ was formed after members of Help and Shelter held training programmes with women from the Grove/Diamond Housing Schemes.
Help and Shelter is currently implementing a project that is aimed to reduce gender-based violence, with particular focus on domestic violence.
The project, which started in April 2008, is being implemented in Kaneville, Den Amstel, Covent Garden and Good Hope. Funded by The World Day of Prayer German Committee, the project will run for three years.
