Several teams registered victories when the Grove Inter-Block football knockout competition got underway at the Grove Playfield Sunday June 27 last.
In the inaugural game of the evening grove North defeated Caneville 4-3 on penalty kicks after both teams scored 2 goals apiece during regulation time. Teashawn Blackman netted two goals while Orson Francois and Clive Matthews contributed one goal each.
Samantha Point then defeated Craig 6-1 in a one sided affair. Jason Lewis netted twice for the winners in the 24th and 35th minutes respectively while Royston Adams netted in the 4th minute. Other goal scorers for the winners were Vanburn Jones, Marvin Blair, and Timothy Griffith.
In game number three the New Kid on the Block New Scheme defeated Grove 5-4 after Kelson Henry and Daniel Angoy both scored doubles. Quason Fanfair rounded off the spree for the winners. The action continues on Sunday July 4 with several other exciting fixtures at the same venue.
Meanwhile, Parliamentary Secretary in the Sports Ministry Steve Ninvalle attended the opening and made a presentation of footballs to coordinator Wayne Francois. The balls will be given to the participating teams.
